F&N Practical Exam: A Disadvantage to Students
This Friday 19th September will be our F&N Practical Exam. Here are some factors that may make the Practical Exam tough to score well:
- Remember: We only had 2 Practical this 2 terms (i.e the pasta and cupcakes). And with limited first-hand experience on the stove, how do we do well for the Practical Exam component of the coursework.
- In the past, yes, at this time of the year, practical exams can be held as then, there were Practical lessons every week. And you can count. There were at least 10 lessons. But now we have only gone through 2 Practical lessons
- Not everyone did have a chance to ''touch the stove'' EVIDENCE: Remember Partner A and B? A does the chopping and B does the cooking? So, lets take the Practical Lesson 1: Pasta. Not everyone have a chance to experience the cooking process. As for lesson 2, Practical lesson is on baking and NO stove is required. Then, just only 2 Practical lessons and here it is, The Practical Exam.
- And since we lack experience on the stove, the Home Economics Comittee should hold some trial-runs or the teachers should even have Practical Supplementary Classes for the students. This is very useful to we students, as not everyone have a knowhowtocook mum or dad at home to guide you in the cooking and preperation. By right, there should be no supplementary classes, but since there are so little Practical lessons, why not have a Supplementary lesson, so that the teacher can pinpoint our mistakes and correct us, before the practical exam.
- It is not the teacher's fault. The teacher follows the order from its superior and carries out efficiently. The problem lies with the higher authority Home Econs, Dept or the school, for not having enough Practical Lessons.
- This is just my views on this matter. I am not being biased to anyone/any group of people. This is just an opinion.
- Therefore, with all these factors, I will not be surprised that some of us may not do well for the Practical Exam. It is fine, 1Dees, just do your best. It is not your fault if you don't score well for the Practical Exam. You know, cooking in an exam for the first time and for some, touching the stove for the first time in your entire life.
P.S I think that is why the excecution part ( i.e Practical Exam) occupies such litle marks in the entire coursework. So, the main thing is the research, task analysis, eh?
